헷갈리는 Thanks to, Because of 그리고 Due to, 근데 Owing to는 또 뭐야?

일단 간단히 살펴보자면

때문에/까닭에라는 뜻을 가진 Because of와 

Due to/Owing to는 크게 다른점이 없고

Caused by/attributable to란 뜻으로

전부 전치사로 사용되어진다.

다만

Due to/Owing to는 일상대화에서도 쓰이지만

약간 formal한 단어라고 일단 생각해두자.

그리고

덕분에/덕택에라는 뜻을 가진 Thanks to는 

비꼬는 말로 사용될 수도 있다는 것을 먼저 알아두자.

Due to/Owing to

House price kept soaring due to inflation.

물가상승으로 인해 집값이 계속 치솟고 있다.

Alice has been absent from work due to sickness.

Alice는 병 때문에 계속 결근 중이다.

Our project won't continue next year owing to the dept.

내년엔 우리 프로젝트는 빚 때문에 계속되진 않을 거야.

Owing to my persistence, the contract has successfully started.

나의 끈기 덕분에 그 계약은 훌륭하게 성사되었다.
